Mapping abundance distributions of allergenic tree species in urbanized landscapes: A nation-wide study for Belgium using forest inventory and citizen science data

چکیده
Mapping the distribution of allergenic plants in urbanized landscapes is high importance to evaluate its impact on human health. However, data not always available for allergy-relevant species such as alder, birch, hazel, especially within cities where systematic inventories are often missing or readily available. This research presents an approach produce high-resolution abundance maps tree using existing forest and opportunistic open-access citizen science data. Following a two-step approach, we first built models (SDMs) predict habitat suitability, environmental characteristics predictors. Second, used statistical regressions model relationships between abundance, suitability predicted by SDMs, additional vegetation cover covariates. The combination inventory with improves accuracy species. produces continuous, 1-hectare resolution map hazel showing spatial variations distributions both urban fabric along urban–rural gradient. Species modelling can offer better understanding potential future allergy risk posed green spaces pave way wide variety applications at fine-scale, which indispensable evidence-based space policy planning support public

Mapping species distributions: A comparison of skilled naturalist and lay citizen science recording
To assess the ability of traditional biological recording schemes and lay citizen science approaches to gather data on species distributions and changes therein, we examined bumblebee records from the UK's national repository (National Biodiversity Network) and from BeeWatch. The two recording approaches revealed similar relative abundances of bumblebee species but different geographical distri...
متن کاملAbundance distributions for tree species in Great Britain: A two‐stage approach to modeling abundance using species distribution modeling and random forest
High-quality abundance data are expensive and time-consuming to collect and often highly limited in availability. Nonetheless, accurate, high-resolution abundance distributions are essential for many ecological applications ranging from species conservation to epidemiology. Producing models that can predict abundance well, with good resolution over large areas, has therefore been an important a...
متن کاملSelecting tree species for testing climate change migration hypotheses using forest inventory data
The lack of objective tree species lists hinders the assessment of climate change effects on tree species distributions. The goal of this studywas to develop and evaluate criteria for selecting tree species used in large-scale tree migration monitoring efforts. The results of this study indicate that tree migration conclusions are highly dependant on the species selected for examination. It was...
متن کاملApplication of Decision-tree Techniques to Forest Group and Basal Area Mapping Using Satellite Imagery and Forest Inventory Data
Accurate, current, and cost-effective fire fuel data are required by management and fire science communities for use in reducing wildland fire hazards over large areas. In this paper we present results of applying decision-tree techniques to mapping vegetation parameters (such as vegetation types and canopy structure classification) required for fire fuel characterization. Specifically, we pres...
